Brooklynites

Enrique Pastor’s highly-researched portrait book “Brooklynites”. The work reveals the dynamic diversity of individuals and places that make up Brooklyn - the most populous borough of New York City.

Brooklynites is a highly researched, community-based project resulting in a series of photographic portraits of leaders, social figures, and creators who have made a deep impact on their community. The work reveals the dynamic diversity of individuals and places that make up Brooklyn - the most populous borough of New York City. Showcasing the renown people and places in this historic but, until recently, largely ignored borough, photographer Enrique Pastor has managed to capture the vitality, energy, and movement of his subjects through his special brand of portraiture.

Some of the personalities photographed include, Linda Johnson (President, Brooklyn Public Library), Dr. Schutte (President, Pratt Institute), Martha Wilson (Founding Director, Franklin Furnace), Arnold L. Lehman (Director, Brooklyn Museum), Marty Markowitz (Former Brooklyn Borough President), Mary Harron (Film Director), Mickalene Thomas (Visual Artist), Deborah Schwartz (President, Brooklyn Historical Society), Steve Chung (United Chinese Association of Brooklyn), Vito Acconci (Artist), Steve Hindy, Garrett Oliver, Eric and Robin Ottaway (Founders and Board Members of the Brooklyn Brewery), Karen Brooks Hopkins (Director, BAM) and Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez (Rep. New York’s 7th Congressional District).

Glitterati Inc. is designing a book based on the Brooklynites series for publication.

“The remarkable photographs in this book, by the acclaimed photographer Enrique Pastor attest to the present explosion of creative talent now being nourished in what some people refer to as a Brooklyn renaissance. Brooklyn will always be in a perpetual state of renaissance. So what else is new?”
